2. JOB PURPOSE
-
Provide technical support for implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and programmable logic controller (PLC) Systems by solving obsolescence issues.

Work closely with operations to ensure safety, availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance of the assigned systems in order to support QAPCO’s operations.
4. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
System Maintenance
-
Prepare and manage life cycle management plan for DCS/PLC Systems to ensure that all such systems are maintainable for sustained and optimized plant operation.
-
Participate in the commissioning and acceptance testing of upgraded installed systems. Test new release of systems and application software before installation.
-
Review automation technical design. Coordinate with the Operations and vendors on related issues prior to escalating same to the line manager.
-
Provide technical and troubleshooting support to all system users and production and maintenance teams. Ensure testing and debugging of DCS/PLC Systems before handover to operation and solve complex system user problems.

Monitor DCS/PLC Systems performance and propose required modifications/enhancements and tuning of hardware, operating systems, or network systems to improve system efficiency and performance and ensure maximum availability of systems.

Carry out feasibility studies and comprehensive testing to support the financial and technical viability of upgraded automation systems or modifications and provide recommendations as appropriate as directed by Engineer.

Develop formats for all applications. Establish and update applications upgrade plans. Participate with operations personnel in diagnosing DCS/PLC systems faults in order to provide solutions as required.

Participate in costing and preparation of budgets for DCS/PLC systems upgrade projects. Recommend the use of external consultants/contractors as required, define their scope of work, and oversee and direct works.

Coordinate with consultants/contractors during project implementation for all project related matters including site visits, technical data requirements, etc., and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.

Recommend systems/automation vendors and monitor the effective implementation of services. Interface with the contractor teams and provide technical expertise to ensure requirements are clearly understood and met. Review and approve related technical documents.

Identify training needs for systems users and participate in planning and delivering required training.

Plan, implement and upgrade security measures and controls.
-
Protect digital files and information systems against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction.

Maintain data and monitor security access.
-
Manage network, intrusion detection and prevention systems.
-
Recommend and install appropriate tools and countermeasures.
-
Define, implement and maintain corporate security policies.
-
Coordinate security plans with outside vendors.
-
Vulnerability and risk assessment.
-
Security assessments of network infrastructure, hosts and applications.
-
Close any ICS security related audit findings or corrective actions.

6. CONTEXT & WORK ENVIRONMENT
-
The DCS Supervisor shall be the second level of technical specialist in the assigned unit, guided by DCS Engineer and shall work according to established company policies and procedures, industry norms and best practices using own initiative in a variety of ways to answer technical queries/resolve problems within the defined policies and procedures.

The DCS Supervisor shall determine work methods from alternative existing methods in accordance with established specialized policies and professional standards.
-
This role shall be responsible to lead a team of technicians and engineers to fulfil unit objectives in line with HSE and quality standards and provide performance feedback to facilitate capability development.
-
Completed work assignments are subject to review by the DCS Engineer.
